The Rochester Rotary Club is very active in the local area, with a wide variety of projects to support the community.
- We supply a staff person for the Strafford County Homeless Shelter four mornings a week from April - October. We also supply the shelter with paper goods, cleaning supplies and food items. This year we presented them with a new refrigerator for Christmas.
- We support the Eye Care Mission in Nicaragua. We collect, store, and ship used medical equipment to the Rivas Hospital in Nicaragua.
- We distribute dictionaries to every 3rd grader in Rochester.
- We offer free fingerprinting and DNA test kits to all first graders in local schools.
- We distribute a summer reading book to all first graders in the city.
- We award scholarships to high school seniors every year.
- We have a Christmas Light Tour for the elderly.
- We do traffic control at the holiday parade.
- We do roadside cleanup on Route 11, and maintain the Welcome to Rochester sign on the Turnpike.
- We support the Share Fund, Gerry's Food Pantry, St Charles Children's Home, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Daniel Webster Council, Project Pride, Girls, Inc., Rochester Child Care Center, Rochester Opera House, Rochester Youth Safe Haven, Youth Sports, Seacoast Hospice, YMCA, Salvation Army, Strafford County Homemakers, Your VNA, Toy Bank, The Frisbie Memorial Hospital, A Safe Place, etc.
- We initiated a Fuel Assitance Project this year, for needy families.
- We hold a yearly Golf Tournament, where each team is matched with a Pro, with all proceeds going to help local charities and fund local scholarships. Rotarian Ron Poulin chairs this event.
- In August 2008, Past President Lisa Stanley.initiated and chaired a very successful "Back to School Clothing Give-Away". We hope to continue with a similar project in 2009.
- Director Janet Atkins and her committee created a safety survey to be sent home with all Rochester students, in February, addressing safety issues at home, work and play, as part of a project to help reduce child mortality in the world.
